# Event to Metric Processor

## Event to Metric Processor

**Purpose:** Converts log events into structured metric events (e.g., counters, gauges) for monitoring and analysis.

**Key Features:**

* **Metric Types:** Choose between incremental (counter) or absolute (gauge) metrics.
* **Field References:** Use field values as metric data points or tags.

**Steps to Add:**

1. Edit the pipeline and click **Add Processor**.
2. Select **Event to Metric** and configure:

* Title/Description for clarity.
* Metric name (e.g., `error_count`).
* Metric type (sum, counter, gauge).
* Optional tag fields and values for metadata.

**Note:** If you need to retain the original log, duplicate it before routing to this processor.
